Rowan "The Robot" Parlett returns to Virginia Motorsports Park for the second stop of the PDRA 2023 race season. After weather wreaked havoc with the racing schedule, Rowan was able to take the Computech Jr. Dragster to the finals where he came up a little short. This past weekend was the 7th race of the PDRA Racing season and we were back at GALOT Motorsports Park. This was Rowans second Pro Jr. Dragster and our first race with our new custom Ron Hubble Motorsports engine. We spent the test and tune dialing in the engine and working on getting our reaction time lower and we were able to qualify on Q3 with a 7.931 for the #26th spot.

First round had us paired up against Ethan Steding, who happened to win the Pro Jr World Championship the same year we won the Top Jr Championship. Both Rowan and Ethan had identical .016 R/T but Rowan was able to secure the stripe for the victory.

Second round we went up against Ayden Christensen and he was able to get out ahead .011 to .023 on the tree. It turned out to be too much and Ayden was able to get the double breakout win.

Using the Computech R/T Reader we are able to determine the Robot's reaction times independent of the car. This weekend his Adjusted Drivers R/T were -.004, .007, .020, .012, .012, .025 and then .003 and -.001 in eliminations. This kid was on fire and with only 9 passes on this combo I'm sure we're just about there.

The Summit Racing PDRA Pro Stars Race is the ultimate All Star race for anyone running the Professional Drag Racing Association. Coming into this race Rowan 'The Robot' Parlett was leading the points after working hard in the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

One of the coolest aspects of this event is the signature session that allowed all the kids to sign and pass out their hero cards. Plus the concert is a really awesome touch making this one of the premier events to not only race at but to spectate.

For the second year in a row we drew McKenzee Hogan in the first round and although Rowan lost the rock, paper, scissors match for lane choice, he ultimately got the first round win. Then in second round, TJ Harvey went red putting Rowan in his second PDRA Pro Stars final in three years!

And that's when the wheels came off at the event. After a freak accident involving top fuel dragster vibrations, the tree shorted out and caused a fire in the timing office completely wrecking the timing system and ending the race.

But a champion had to be crowned, so at the next race in Michigan at US131 Dragway, the final round was held against Gavin Wood. And although Rowan would end up going dead zero, 8.900 on a 8.90 dial, a red light would hand the victory to Gavin.

As drag racers, there are not many things we can do to practice, but hitting the practice tree is and it can pay huge dividends down the road.

In Episode 8 of Sudden Rush Shop Rowan and Matt walk you through the process of installing the new Computech Jr. Practice Tree that includes the Porta-Tree Pocket Pal Practice Tree, a micro switch for the Halfscale adjustable pedal and either a flat or butterfly steering wheel mount.

We also talk about the Computech Reaction Time Reader that allows you to use a GoPro on a wing camera mount and a Mikuni throttle flag to determine the drivers reaction time independent of the car itself. This tool and data is a huge advantage in any bracket racing operation but especially useful in the junior world.

This offseason we decided to upgrade our torque converter from a 9" to a 10" and thanks to the guys over at FTI Performance, we were able to get it installed on this weeks episode of Sudden Rush Shop.

Installing a toque converter in a dragster is pretty easy and can be done in as quick as 30 minutes to as long as a couple hours depending on how much help you have and how fast you need to go. It will definitely help to have at least one extra person to help heave the transmission out.

The first step is to drain the transmission. Then while that is draining we need to remove all the things that are in the way of removing the trans. We remove the headers, coil, dial board, trans cooler, blowback support, oil filter, trans overflow tank, rear tires and driveshaft. Then we are able to remove the torque converter bolts by using the bump button to rotate the engine. Finally the transmission bolts come out and we jack the trans up to make it easier to lift out. We also install a convert holder device to keep the converter from falling out, then heave it out and onto the workbench.

We then inspect the flexplate for cracks or chipped teeth on the ring gear and add 1 quart of Automatic Transmission Fluid to the converter. Then we carefully place it into the trans, aligning the two gears and final keyways. Then install the converter holder bracket, pop it back in the trans and re-install everything. When tightening the converter bolts, with the converter shoved all the way back, we want a gap of .125" to .185", so make sure to use spacers to get the appropriate gap before tightening. Once everything is installed we can add 5 quarts of new ATF fluid, and when the time comes we will fire up the engine, run the trans some and re-fill until the dipstick level is ideal.

We take the guess work out of winterizing your junior dragster and give you the procedure to make sure you're ready to race next season. This week we head out of Sudden Rush Shop and stop by the Hubble Motorsports shop to talk with legendary engine builder Ron Hubble. Mr. Hubble has been in junior drag racing since it's inception and is a wealth of first hand knowledge.

Winterizing Procedure:
- Flush fuel pump and carb with Marvel Mystery Oil (1oz) & Race Gas(1qt)
- Spray top of cylinder with WD-40
- Orient valves for storage
- Detail clean and check all chassis welds
- Move engine and clutch indoors if possible

During The Off Season:
- If over 60 runs, have engine rebuilt
- Rebuild or replace clutch
- Replace rear axle bearings
- Replace jackshaft bearings
- Replace front wheel bearings
- Replace carb needle, seat and gaskets

To Get Ready For The New Race Season
- New fuel lines and fuel filter
- New spark plug
- New air filter

The PDRA Racing World Finals and 2022 season is over. The Robot was on fire all weekend and poised to go as high as 5th in points, but mother nature didn't cooperate and the race had to be cancelled. Special thanks to Tyler Crossnoe and the entire Virginia Motorsports Park staff for trying so hard.

Ultimately Rowan finished 9th in points and for the second year in a row managed to qualify in the top half of the field for every single event: Galot: #4 .005, Kentucky: #3 .023, Ohio: #5 .015, Maryland: #1 .000, Pennsylvania: #7 .035, World Finals: #1 .001. That means his average qualifying position was a #3 with an average light of .013!!

This PDRA season has definately been a trying one for us. From chasing bad fuel lines to fighting tire spin issues, it seemed like we just couldn't get on the same page. We doubled down on tightening things up and we finally got back to our championship form, right as both Galot and the World Finals got cancelled. But we have one more season in Classic Graphix Top Jr Dragster and we will be ready and hungry for another championship.

Our Jr. Dragster lift is a custom installation to get our junior dragster into the air so we can fit another car or dragster underneath of it. In this video we go over how we have the ramps setup, winch through the counter, winch to get it up in the air, cradle to set the front wheels into and how to strap it down safely. This allows us to get the Jr. dragster up in the air and secure without ever having to pick it up and it is so well out of the way that it is like having an empty trailer again.

Rowan "The Robot" Parlett qualifies for the second ever Summit Motorsports PDRA Pro Stars Race. This is an all star race celebrating the top 8 in each class and Rowan managed to qualify again. Although we didn't win the race the PDRA Pro Stars race was an amazing event and one we look forward to each year.

What an amazing first season running the PDRA Racing Classic Graphix Top Jr Dragster class. We started the season wondering whether we would be able to qualify and finished the season as WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!

Rowan "The Robot" drove his butt off all season and we couldn't be happier or more proud of him. The amount of dedication and focus that he has is apparent to anyone that see's him in the staging lanes. All you have to do is talk to him and you can tell he knows what he's doing and he's loving every second of it. At only 11 years old his future is bright and we can't wait to see what he can do with it.

Coming into the 7th race of the season we had a 412 point lead and left with a mere 15 point lead after Alyssa won the event. Alyssa gave us a run for our money but stumbled in E2 and lost securing Rowan the World Championship. Congrats Alyssa for an amazing season. Rowan was then able to drive the Computech dragster to the finals where a fogged visor delayed his reaction time giving Hunter Cunningham his first PDRA victory.
To my new PDRA family that we have made this year, thank you so much for being the truly best part about PDRA racing. The friendships that we have made along the way is what makes coming to each race so much fun and is what will keep bringing us back. We hope to see you all at the awards banquet and the track next season.

We are sitting #1 in PDRA Top Jr Dragster with a 412 points lead and only two races to go and we can't wait for the next PDRA Racing race at GALOT Motorsports Park on October 2nd. This is our first season racing PDRA and looking back we have made so many good friends, good memories and have accomplished more than we ever expected. Special thanks to Computech, VP Racing Fuels, Ron Hubble and Halfscale Dragsters for helping us live the dream!

The PDRA Summit Pro Star All Star Race is a points series that started with 3 races last season and 5 this season with the top 8 being invited to the all star race. For the Jr class they can win $2,000 and the prestige of being the first Pro Star Champion. We didn’t race PDRA last season so we didn’t think we had a chance to qualify.

But Rowan has been driving the wheels off the car and we managed to qualify at the last race. And we are proud to represent the Computech colors there.

They did a chip draw to see who goes against who and Rowan drew the former champ and #2 in points Alyssa Rabon. The Robot brought his A game and cut a perfect light, .000 for the first round win.

Second rounds chip draw saw us matched up against #3 in points and the last event winner Katelyn Page. Again, The Robot chopped the tree down with a .005 for the win.

The final round was an all Computech Cloud final with Rowan matching up against his good friend Donald O’Meara in the Lucky Duck car. Rowan did his job at the start and the finish and was able to become the first ever Summit Pro Stars Top Jr Dragster Champion along with a big fat check for $2,000!!!!
